Essential elements of critical thinking
We have covered a lot of ground so far! Let’s review. In just five weeks, we have learned how to:
-
- Ask critical, strategic questions
- Apply intellectual standards
- Analyze and solve problems
- Create and critique inductive and deductive arguments
- Utilize analytical tools like the ladder of inference
- Spot and explain logical fallacies
All of those skills are essential elements of critical thinking!”
Before we move into the next module, take this opportunity to pause and critically reflect on what you have learned and why you think it’s important.
For this assignment, please write a 500-700 word (approximately 2-3 pages) essay that identifies and describes, in detail, what you feel have been the three most useful, valuable, or important skills you have learned so far, and why. As part of your reflections, share how and where you might apply these skills as a professional, citizen, and friend or family member.
Remember to present your critical reflection in a way that is logical, organized, and easy to follow. Think of it as an ‘argument’ or an informative message you want to send. It should be clear and concise, with a brief introduction, easily discernible main points, and correct use of grammar, citations, and references (lecture resources and others).
