Overview:During the course of this unit, you will be expected to write a comparative / literary analysis essay focusing on onelens (theme, symbol, motifs, …). Your essay should present a clear analytical interpretation of one aspect of the text. Focus your argument, closely read your chosen text(s), and thoroughly discuss the significance of the literary element being discussed. Support your analysis with relevant details/quotes from the texts. The goal is to educate the reader something about the text.
This is an original analysis. Do not consult outside sources such as websites or critical books/essays. Identify what you think about and find in the text you are analyzing.
Purpose: The purpose of this assignment is to help you
• Think deeply and critically about a text
• Articulate a focused and well-developed analysis of literary work, and
• Exercise effective communication through written composition
Options:
• Select stories from the list and analyze the text(s) in terms of theme and style, character(s), setting, symbol, language, plot, mood, or tone/voice.
• Select a story from the list and explore a motif.

• The Tell-Tale Heart by Edgar Allen Poe
Requirements:
• Your essay must be between 3-5 pages in length.
• Your essay must adhere to standard APA7 formatting, including a correct header and heading, title, 12-point font (Times New Roman or Arial), double spacing (body of the essay), properly formatted titles.
• Include on the title page: Your name, the name of your class, the date/semester term, and your professor’s name.
• Number each page with last name positioned at top right page (use insert in header).
• Type with double spacing and 1” margins
