Word Processing
Topic 1: Word Processing Features
Starting from a template, prepare a flyer or pamphlet in Microsoft Word about how to engage security features in that program or how to use a template to create a document. Add security features to your Word document, save the file to your computer and upload it as an attachment to your post. Be sure to provide instructions on how to unlock the security features and state which version of Word you used to create your document.
Then open another student’s attachment and critique his or her essay/document using the track changes feature. (Be sure to save it to your computer and scan it with your antivirus program before you open it.) When you are done critiquing the essay/document, save it to your computer and upload it as an attachment to your response. Each student is responsible for writing one essay and critiquing one of another student.
Be sure to indicate which version of Word you used to create your document. Documents created with the most recent version of Word (2010) are not always viewable in older versions of the program. It is possible to save your document in the older version of the program, but sometimes some of your formatting may be lost if you do this.
Topic 2: Contemporaneous Timekeeping
Click here (attached docuemnt ) to view the video “Contemporaneous Timekeeping.”
As you watch the video, consider this: How can a paralegal avoid a violation of the ethical obligation with regard to fees when the law firm insists on a minimum number of billable hours? Also, why is the presentation of accurate financial information critical to the law office?
Put it into Practice
Using this workbook [also posted in Doc Sharing], keep track of the time you spend on your Kaplan University homework for 2 days. Engage security features and upload your timesheet to your Discussion post, remembering to provide the password. Then review your classmates’ timesheets as though you were a client reviewing a statement you will need to pay.
