COMM 1000    SYMPOSIUM REFLECTIONS ASSIGNMENT
As
part
of
your
work
in
this
course,
you
will
complete
three
reflection
papers
on
our
symposium-­‐eligible
speaking
events.

Two
of
these
reflections
should
come
after
you
listen
to
“symposium-­‐eligible”
episodes
of
COMMPENDIUM,
our
course-­‐podcast.

The
third
reflection
will
require
you
to
attend/view
a
“live
symposium
event”

live
events
will
take
place
later
in
the
semester
and
be
announced
in
class.

Each
reflection
is
worth
50
points
(5%)
in
the
course.

For
each
reflection:
• You
will
write
a
2-­‐3
page
paper
(double-­‐spaced,
12-­‐point
Times
New
Roman
font,
1-­‐inch
margins).

• You
will
submit
the
paper
via
HuskyCT,
under
your
discussion
section’s
page.

Each
symposium
event
will
have
its
own
assignment.

All
papers
will
be
submitted
through
SafeAssign.

The
assignment
will
be
due
at
11:59
PM
seven
days
after
the
podcast
is
posted
or
the
live
event
is
held.

o Late
submissions
will
be
accepted
for
an
additional
24
hours
after
the
deadline.

Any
late
submission
will
be
graded
with
an
automatic
15-­‐point
deduction.

Once
the
late
period
has
passed,
you
cannot
reflect
on
that
specific
podcast
or
live
event
for
credit.

How
to
structure
your
reflection
paper:
• Summarize
the
podcast
or
lecture
you’ve
chosen.

You
should
talk
briefly
about
who
was
interviewed,
their
background,
the
topics
they’ve
covered,
and
some
of
the
ideas
that
they
have
put
forward.

For
Podcast
interviews
with
some
personal
conversation,
try
to
focus
this
summary
on
the
communication
and
research
material
discussed.

If
the
podcast
or
lecture
has
supplemental
material
(e.g.
from
Professor
Stifano
but
not
from
the
guest/speaker)
you
can
mention
this
as
well.
This
summary
should
show
that
you’ve
listened
to
the
podcast/lecture
in
its
entirety
and
identified
the
key
points
and
main
ideas.

You
should
try
to
limit
your
summary
to
one
paragraph.
