Hello class! Misleading information that I would like to talk about today is not an actual display of a graph, poll, survey, or tweet. However, have any of you heard of the new recent updates with the Twitter app? There are some new recent updates that not everyone is aware of. Twitter is justified to be a freedom of speech app and will try to achieve that 100% with its new owner, Elon Musk. Next, the main point here is that in 2021, Twitter is now experiencing the new feature of allowing users to flag certain “misleading posts” (Blake, 2021). Twitter wanted to start small with this opportunity because they were not sure how it was going to go. This can cause problems though because of political beliefs. It was proven that conservatives were trying to silence the liberal’s information and vice versa. It is good in some ways, yet also bad. Twitter’s main goal in doing this was to make it so that misleading information would be identified quicker and broadened so that Twitter is able to deal with it faster (Fung, 2021). Next, this article can misrepresent the facts being told on Twitter because by having this option open, people could potentially flag information that is accurate, yet that individual either doesn’t agree or wants it off the platform so others cannot see it. The current title of this article is ‘Twitter allowing users to report tweets that “seem misleading”, and if I were to change the title I would convert it to ‘How is Twitter’s misleading option going for the app with separating the information?’. In addition, I looked at two articles and both were similar in their information. In my opinion, I think that in both articles they were just trying to inform us, readers. I think they were doing this because Twitter is a very well known and used app, so they want the people using it to be aware of (1) misleading information and (2) opposing individuals who do not agree with accurate information and are reporting it as misleading to get it taken down. On the other hand, this misleading information or potentially accurate information getting taken down makes it somewhat biased for readers because we cannot see all of the information by Twitter taking it down. It is kind of like taking down perspectives, even if some might be misleading/false; it is almost as if we have to see it all to form opinions. From that, political stance might be different and other situations because that is looking at certain information pertaining to all different equally important things, such as choosing a president of the United States. Lastly, I was not able to find an article refuting this, and I have been sent articles before that I believed just by reading the title. A lot of this is looking at what you are sent, forming your own opinion, and doing extra research if need be. In my opinion, a lot of stuff nowadays is misleading because people want you to believe certain things and do what they want, however, that is not always the best option. It is important to do your own research and obtain background knowledge about what you are looking for. Everyone needs to clarify that the information they’re receiving and or looking at is not misleading/inaccurate information.
