Telecommunications in Networking

Last week we examined the multiple access problem and its solutions. This week, as part of our study of wireless and mobility, we are considering another solution to the same problem, namely Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA). What is CDMA, and how does it compare to other solutions? What are its strengths and weaknesses? Write a short paper answering these questions.

Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) is an example of multiple access is a channel frequently used by radios that do not assign a different frequency to each of its users rather, users send information through the same frequency or channel. Each transmitter is assigned a code and CDMA also employs a spread-spectrum technology. These allow CDMA to permit the simultaneous sending of information through one channel without interference from other users (Buehrer, 2006).

Whereas CDMA requires only one frequency, Orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) and Orthogonal….
