  1. Please identify 3 strengths and 3 weaknesses of each of the survey methods listed in Chapter 9. Of these survey methods which one have you used in your Assignment #1? describe why you chose that method over any other methods described in the chapter.
  2. Select a small social group that you belong to. This may be your work group, exercise group, social club or any other small group (consisting ideally of about 6 members). Assuming the role of a field researcher, observe the group doing their work and take field notes. The observation period should not exceed 30 minutes.
  3. What new things about the group did you learn when you were observing the group as a qualitative researcher?
  4. How difficult was it to maintain the role of the researcher, as opposed to just another member of the group?
  5. Present the most interesting field notes you made in the conference.
  6. This exercise relates to content analysis. Select one specific 15 minute time block for 3 consecutive days (for example 8.00pm to 8.15 pm). Select a particular news channel and watch that channel during the selected 15 minutes all three days. Watch all advertisements shown during the period using one particular criterion to observe (for example, male aggression in advertisements, how advertisements use feminine beauty to sell their products, sexism etc.) and make notes.. Share the conclusions of your research with the class. Note: you must read the piece on Content analysis  for this work to be successful.
