Why does Lucretius wish to prove that the soul is physical?
In Lecture 5 I discuss Lucretius’s argument that the soul or mind is physical (i.e., that the mind is the brain and not a distinct spiritual substance). Write a 600-900 word essay responding to the following questions:
1) why does Lucretius wish to prove that the soul is physical? In other words, if the soul is physical, what conclusion follows about death?
2) what four pieces of evidence or four arguments does Lucretius give in his attempt to demonstrate that the soul is physical? You should provide examples to illustrate each one of these pieces of evidence or argument.
They should not be the examples that I use in lecture. (30 points or 30% of your exam grade).
