Sonny’s blues is a story about a young talented musician who gets caught in a heroin burst. This story is written in the first-person singular narrative style. It is told by a teacher in Harlem who has escaped life in the ghetto and created a better one for himself. It opens up with a crisis when Sonny’s brother. Who is the narrator and an algebra teacher in high school reads a story in the newspaper about his brother having been caught in a heroin raid the night before.
