Assignment Instructions: Please just write a paragraph One the main tasks of sociology is to attempt to explain human behavior. Create a hypothetical story that links one the following scenarios to one of the four metatheoretical positions (collectivism, individualism, rational, nonrational). These can also be placed on a Cartesian graph where behavior could be a combination of the different approaches. For example, singing the national anthem is a behavior that is tied to social institutions but can be viewed as nonrational. The textbook used stopping at red lights as a scenario.
The scenarios are vague, you can create the context and details. Comment on 2 students by creating an alternative interpretation using a different perspective. The idea here is that we can get started at debating why people do what they do.

Massive protest for social equality
Getting married
Experiencing discrimination
Joining a gang

For my hypothetical story, I’m choosing to use rational motivation theory and apply it to marriage. In many or in most situations women look for stability in a marriage and this is after being in many relationships. Sometimes these first relationships were exiting and filled with passion but failed the expectations and simply didn’t work out. This is why I’ve heard that if we marry someone because they seem to possess most of the qualities we estimate this will make us happy, and we’re thinking logically. If we marry out of love there will be challenges, I’m not saying we should marry someone just because of what they can do for us, but if we use rational motivation in marriage we are “maximizing” the benefits and trying to reduce “costs” or issues. With that being said positive expectations have important or good benefits. An example, is older couples these couples come to be comfortable with each other and have made the proper adjustments so they’re better equipped to deal with the difficulties of marriage.
