Turn your sociological focus to the world that surrounds you and capture an image
This week, turn your sociological focus to the world that surrounds you and capture an image (yes, take a picture) that encompasses a concept from this week’s readings and lecture on stratification, inequality, and social class. Once you have a photo, you’ll apply the sociological ideas and concepts to what you see. Include the photo in your submission along with a one (1) paragraph description including the following:
- A context for the photograph, like where was the photo taken, what do we see in the photo, and what else was occurring in the scene beyond the frame of the photograph, if applicable.
- A connection to the sociological theories or concepts you believe are evident or assumed with the photograph, and a discussion of how those theories or concepts are related to the photograph.
Photographs must follow the following guidelines:
- Each photograph must be taken this week, if not possible, please use a current picture.
- Photographs must be your own work. That is, you must take the photographs and they must not be copyrighted to someone else.
- Photographs will be \\\\\\\”candid\\\\\\\” representations – candid photography refers to situations or settings that have not been staged or set-up by you, the photographer. Candid photography does not have to include people and may include other natural settings or items you find in your house or public areas (e.g., books in a library, a pond, an ashtray on a coffee table, and many other ideas). As these photographs will not be shared outside this class or learning environment, no special permissions are needed by you, the student/photographer, to capture images around you.
Photographs need not meet any professional standards and will not be graded on artistic quality.
