For your post to this discussion, keeping in mind the concepts outlined above, provide a response to both of the following:
Describe the importance of using challenging and confrontation as social work skills.
Apply the skills of challenging and confrontation by describing how you would integrate these in a session to uncover underlying feelings or to interrupt a problematic response or behavior, all the while maintaining empathy and unconditional positive regard.
Be aware and assess both the social worker\’s and client\’s use of affective and empathetic words and phrases. Note that you will need to utilize information from all assigned chapters to complete this discussion and to prepare for the synchronous sessions. You are encouraged to take notes on the concepts in each chapter because you will have to demonstrate integration and proficiency with all covered concepts in the synchronous session.
2.Human behavior-You are the social worker for Joe\’s family ( refer to \”joe the king\” movie from discussion 1) and are tasked with completing a family assessment.
What are all of the biological factors in play for each family member?
How might these biological factors influence family dynamics?
How might these biological factors interact with relevant psychological or societal systems
3.Reply to maxine: As the social worker for the Henry Family, each family member\’s biological factor has been identified.
Bob\’s addiction to alcohol and his abusive nature, is a biological factor. Bob may have a gene that is present for the propensity to become an alcoholic. We would need to delve a bit deeper into his family history. With that said, his abusive nature is not biological but it becomes second nature to the drinking. Theresa\’s depressed state of mind is a biological factor. Theresa also may have a family history of depression. She is a victim of domestic violence and withdrawal it may run in her family. Joe\’s escalating anti-social behavior may be indicative of biological. Again, delving deeper into the family history is important.
In order to determine the biological factors that influence the family dynamics, further contact with the family is warranted to review family history which could include research to learn of genetic predisposition, brain chemistry, and health habits.
Neither Bob nor Theresa were great examples of a good parent. They both had traumatic experiences that may have been intergenerational. Because these traumas were not dealt with, they have treated a dysfunctional home environment. If the parents do not address their trauma, their offspring may continue the dysfunctional cycle.
