Benchmark – Social Media Broadcasts

Produce eight short social media posts that can be used to broadcast via social media and that would utilize previous material: links to the Web, videos, pictures, and infographics.

Of the eight posts, at least one must be tied to a video, one must be tied to an infographic, and one must be tied to the website.

Each of the posts should prompt the audience to take some kind of action regarding the social media campaign.

Write all eight posts on one document and label each post with the corresponding social media platform and any other elements it will be connected to.

Each post should be accompanied by a 150-200-word rationale that explains why these posts would be used for particular audiences. Remember to consider concepts and theories we have been discussing in previous topics in this course—especially those related to genre, argument, and audience.

When writing your posts, remember that the ones that are more likely to go viral are the ones in which there doesn\’t seem to be an obvious motive on the part of the campaigner.

These social media broadcasts should take into account the audience and the type of media the audience typically uses. (Younger users are becoming less likely to use Facebook and more likely to use Twitter or Snapchat.) Messages should cater to the needs of the target audience and be adjusted accordingly, taking into account demographics, the limitations of a given social medium, etc.

Your messages should remain thematically consistent with the rest of your campaign through the use of your hashtag and other thematically “linked” language or visuals.

**These should be tied to the elements you\’ve already created. You do not need to create yet another website, infographic, and video. These elements have been attacheted**

Part II- Reflection on Technology and Writing

In 1,000-1,250 words respond to the following prompts:

At this point, you have completed several pieces of writing that rely heavily on technology. Given Rice\’s definition of \”logomechanics,\” what has your experience with technology been like? What does it mean to you to be a logomechanic, and in what way does technology influence writing for your social media campaign and for the act of communication more generally?

Now that you have had an opportunity to practice a variety of types of writing beyond essays and everyday workplace documents, how would you define \”writing\”? Use current theories of genre to develop your definition, and make sure your definition is broad enough to include components of social media campaigns and other types of writing.
