What’s the Difference Between Primary & Secondary Sources

Complete a Primary Source Analysis.

Step 1 – Watch “What’s the Difference Between Primary & Secondary Sources?” A good way to distinguish a primary source is to ask if the source is from the time period in question. Many things can be primary sources – artifacts, art, paintings, tools, medical implements, journal articles, government documents, etc.

Step 2 – Choose a primary source that reflects each module of the class (eight primary sources total). The textbook has links at the end of each chapter with primary source ideas and the internet is a good tool to search for other primary sources.

Step 3 – Create a PowerPoint presentation with your eight primary sources. These can be images or links to documents. Each primary source should be on its own slide and in the notes section of each slide describe using 50 words or more where it was found (academic journal, historical or scholarly website, etc.).

The descriptive slide following each primary source slide will explain the context of the primary source and how it connects to the module from class. In your analysis, describe how the primary source reflects the history of the time period.

Each description slide must have no more than 20 words on the slide and at least 150 words in the notes (see below)

Assignment Requirements:

Length: 18+ slides. 1600 words in the Notes.Structure:

Include a title slide at the beginning and a reference slide at the end. Each image should be its own slide and then one additional description slides per image. Minimum of 18 total slides.
