Briefly explain the purpose of using tables and graphs to represent data.

In unit 3 discussion question, you identified and summarized health disparities research that was applicable to your field of practice. In this discussion, you will be using that information as if a physician you work with was the lead researcher on that particular study. This physician has asked you to help prepare a presentation of the key data in the study.

Briefly explain the purpose of using tables and graphs to represent data.
Using the study you selected in unit 3, select a table or graph included in the research and insert it into the content of your post.
If you are unable to save the image and insert, you may include it as an attachment.
Remember to provide an appropriate citation.
Provide an analysis of the table or graph, explaining both pros and cons of the data presented, as well as design elements. (You will use this rationale to advise your physician of either including or omitting the table or graph within the presentation).
Information should be relevant to the audience. Select an audience type, and tailor your analysis to that demographic (examples: care team colleagues, professional conference, community stakeholders, etc.)
Note: If the study you selected in unit 3 does not contain tables or graphs, complete additional research that includes visual aids and include that as part of your discussion

Week 3 Discussion

Hi Class

Health disparity is a term that is exclusive and common in the U.S whereas health inequity and inequalities apply to other countries.  A study by Srivastava et al (2017) examined the racial health disparity among patients with ovarian cancer. The study takes note of health care disparity against African American women compared to their white counterparts. The author further observes that it is not only among African Americans, but ovarian cancer disparities also occur among other minority groups such as Hispanics and Pacific islanders/Asians population. They also identified driving factors for this ovarian cancer racial disparity as socioeconomic factors, lack of and genetic factors. Besides, it is also vital to assess the role played by environmental risk factors to the ovarian cancer health disparities also need to be assessed in future studies.

The study is interesting in many ways and applies to my practice as it helps to understand people at risk and formulate interventions to address this disparity. As a nurse practitioner in a community health centre, we work with women from different racial groups suffering from different illnesses, including ovarian cancer. The main intervention would include creating awareness among these groups at the local level through community outreach and counselling programs, probability using seminars and social media. It is also important to establish a partnership with cancer organizations to help groups at risk of hereditary ovarian cancer. The is essential as it provides a better understanding of health disparities in ovarian cancer for improving targeted screening and patient outcomes.
