Elements of reasoning are different factors which may be designed making individuals get knowledge of the several elements which are contained in the process of reasoning. There are several elements of critical thinking being reflection, analysis, acquisition of information, creativity, structuring arguments, decision making, commitment and debate. All this elements are vital in both inductive and deductive reasoning as they determines the importance and relevance of arguments and ideas, they also help in recognizing and building and appraising arguments. Reasoning is a process that requires use of data and information and assumptions that would help in achieving conclusions from the given perspective (Gass & Seiter, 2019).
It’s also important to get the concept of this elements as they also help in identifying inconsistency and errors in reasoning and may act helpful in decision making as it approaches problems in a consistent and a systematic manner. Reasoning constructs a deliberate effort that helps in attaining a justifiable conclusion.
This elements may promote deductive reasoning as deductive arguments are created on facts or true statements which has to be researched hence its conclusion need to be true. This elements would be helpful in this type of argument as in this case the arguments are based on mathematics, argument is from the definition, and there is a categorical syllogism, hypothetical and disjunctive syllogism.
On the other hand, with inductive arguments, elements of critical thinking is as important as it in this case, the conclusion is picked out first and followed by the supporting examples which are provided displaying the reason why the premise is true. There are specified characteristics associated with this type of argument as argument is from analogy, prediction, there is generalization and the arguments are based on signs of causal inference. The elements of critical thinking improves reasoning as it has implications and consequences (Moore & Parker, 2020).
Critical thinking in that matter would dissect these components helping to attain a sound logic as reasoning is a concerted activity that may need a degree of effort. Since its goal oriented, it can also be done with different degree of success.
