We will read about some rhetorical reading strategies that academic readers use to construct the meaning of a text. We will also learn how to rhetorically analyze the way an author constructs a text to convey meaning to a reader. A Rhetorical Analysis essay requires you to apply your critical reading skills in order to “break down” a text. The goal of a rhetorical analysis is to articulate HOW the author writes, rather than WHAT they actually wrote. To do this, you will analyze the rhetorical situation and strategies (ethos, pathos, and logos) the author uses to achieve their purpose of writing their piece.
