Create a list of films, shows, classes, art, and books that you have encountered that discussed or represented enslavement in the U.S. Spend some time thinking about what you have learned from these depictions of enslavement and also what you have not learned.
For your application assignment, tell me what resonates with you after reading the Introduction to Slavery, your text, and creating your list (please include in your submission). Write about what you think you’ve learned (and not learned) about enslavement from your interactions with films, TV, books, digital media, etc. and how you understand enslavement and how it’s connected to the present. Pay special attention to your reading, 11.5 Race and Ethnicity in the United States (Links to an external site.). To earn the most points, be sure to include specific concepts detailed in our readings, lecture, supplemental materials.

Social practices or policies today may result in disparities because of patterns of discrimination or exclusion in the past.
Using the concepts outlined in the text book reading, as appropriate, explain to what degree prior treatment of indigenous peoples impact their (and our) current experiences? In other words, how does the historical treatment of Native Americans impact their life chances and access to power and opportunity today? To earn the most points, be sure to include specific concepts detailed in our readings, lecture, supplemental materials.
