Abstract
Researchers can use any of the three research approaches that are qualitative, quantitative, or mixed-method depending on the research question. The selection of a research approach relies on the type of data that the researcher anticipates collecting to respond to the research objectives. The following discussion assesses qualitative and quantitative research methods in detail in the context of my research question, which is an assessment of psychological health in the military and the significance of this issue. It outlines how quantitative and qualitative approaches can lead to different studies like a quasi-experiment, case study, phenomenological, and grounded theory with a potentially different research question. Each type of study approach yields varying data such as closed-ended questions, opinions, and observations. Qualitative research can lead to summarizing conclusions based on in-depth analysis of respondents\’ experience and opinions, while quantitative research yields externalizing conclusions since researchers can directly highlight points from the research. The approach that I believe best answers my research question is qualitative research because it will capture the experiences and opinions of military members on mental and psychological health.
