HEADS UP

Read pages 31-33 in Effective Alternative Education Programs by Chalker (1996/2006) and draft a mission and vision statement in preparation for Tuesday’s discussion. Create two goals and two objectives to share on Tuesday with the group. Remember, this will become one alternative education program or school; be sure you are capturing the concept the group has discussed. On Tuesday, the group will read all mission and vision statements drafted and goals and objectives created. From there, the group will either use an entire creation or use parts of creations to make a new mission and vision statement along with goals and objectives.

Note: You have two group discussions this week, due Monday and Tuesday. Peer responses for both discussions are due Wednesday.

For this week’s assignment, you and your group will collaborate to create a single proposal for your new alternative education school or program. Read pages 34-39 and pages 51-52 in Chalker (1996/2006). Familiarize yourself with writing a proposal and the type of facilities needed. You may consider assigning specific sections of the proposal to individuals within the group, but be sure the final product has a unified voice and all members agree on the content. Read ahead for more details.

The final project for this course is due in Week 7. You will write a description of a new innovative alternative education school or program. To complete the final project you will need to be familiar with the school’s educational program (curriculum, instruction, assessment), and the requirements for the governing agency (national, state, or local) to which the alternative education school or program you describe will be accountable. Review these requirements before starting the final project.
