I must say, the fact the privilege dies with the client actually makes sense. It is one thing about law I never did like. When I was in school to be a paralegal, there was an interview I watched with a lawyer whose client had died. Before passing, the client told him he had committed a crime someone else was serving time for. The client never gave up his privilege. Therefore, nothing he said could be used in a court of law. Since the man serving time was already convicted, the court could not overturn the verdict without evidence. The only evidence was the client’s deathbed confession. I am a believer that the privilege should die with the client: whether it be a legal client, medical patient, or mental patient.
