Due to family obligations, our president will resign on June 30. He will return to Missouri where he will become provost at the University of Missouri.

A search committee of 4 administrators, 4 faculty and 4 students spent the next several months reviewing a pool of more than 200 potential candidates. A group of five finalists was drawn from that pool. Of the five finalists, two candidates withdrew. Of the remaining three, one candidate was agreed upon by all 12 committee members after an exhaustive set of telephone and campus interviews.

So many other people ride in on a platform of change. They want to change everything before they even know anything about a university. Jim didn’t do that. He saw so many great things we were already doing and looked at ways to support and improve them. He also saw greatness in our faculty and offered ways to get our professors and instructors additional resources. He saw our students and offered ways to give them more education for fewer dollars. I couldn’t have asked for more in a president.”

However, the best thing he has going for him, in my opinion, is that he’s a people person. I think he will take the student perspective into account in every decision and in every way possible.”

His legacy on this campus will not be forgotten any time soon, thanks in large part to his fundraising effort for the journalism endowment.
