Assignment Instructions: Use the Policy Issue Analysis Worksheet to complete the following assignment:
Part I
Describe the State, National, or Global policy that relates to a global health topic, you will be analyzing
State the agency where the policy is in place
What healthcare issue does this policy address? Is there bias?
Context: Address various perspectives of the Policy – social, economic, ethical, political, legal, environmental, and cultural.
Costs: Discuss economic and non-economic costs of the present policy. Discuss access and quality of care here, if applicable.
Identify components of the policy that can be improved
Part II
Stakeholder Analysis:
Identify all stakeholders, what are their positions on the issue? Are there any champions on either side of the policy issue? You must identify both supporters and opponents. If you are able to say that no one opposes, provide evidence of this. If there are numerous stakeholders, creating a table is wise.
Identify any health risks addressed by the policy.
Specify any policy consequences, both intended and unintended.
Part III
Based on the policy improvements identified in Part 1(#6) State 2–3 policy solutions. These should be realistic, highly specific policy recommendations for action regarding the issue. These recommendations must be feasible and supported with evidence.
Compare Policy Options (Score Card)
How will the policy solutions impact the health risks identified in Part II?
Rationale for Policy Solutions:
Discuss economic and non-economic savings/losses of your recommendations.
Evidence that proposed solutions will make a difference.
Ease of implementation of your solutions and a timeline for implementation.
Enforceability of the solutions. Consider who would monitor for compliance and the costs of monitoring.
Provide evidence to support that one option is best (improvement)
