Back in 1927, a gentleman named Max Erhmann wrote a poem called “Desiderata”. Born in 1872 in Haute, Indiana, his parent were German immigrants who had moved from Bavaria in the 1840’s. Apart from poetry, Max Erhmann was also a practising lawyer and worked as a district attorney in his home state of Indiana. Max Erhmann often wrote about spiritual themes. He lived up to the year 1945 where he died and was buried in Terre, Haute in Indiana. It’s of interest to note that the poem Desiderata was not popular during Max Erhmann lifetime. It became hugely popular in the 60’s and 70’s when someone thought its work in the public domain and made a poster of it. Then desiderata became a huge hit. Sometimes the poem is wrongly attributed to Old St Paul’s Church with claims that it was found there. This was because a rector in Baltimore used the poem in congregational materials…………………………………….
