John: Do you believe we freely chose the path we take in life?
Me: what do you mean by freely?
John: Well, freely as in, no one is forcing you to make the choice you have made, you have chosen the path with out any influence to make you choice.
Me: I feel we freely chose our destination, but at the same time, we are given choices and depending on the choice we chose to take will determine our path in life.
John: So are you saying, since there are actually choices to chose from, and how our life path is presented is by the choice we chose? and that if we chose the other choice our path would be different? So, we are not freely making our choices?
Me: Yes, I believe our fate is already set but it is determined by which path we chose. It is like a road that comes to a fork. You will have to make a choice of which road you will take, the one to the right or the left. Each road will lead to a different journey and it is up to a person to make that choice of which road to take, no knowing what the journey will entail.
John: So making the choice of which path to take is not free will?
Me: It is and it isn’t. Yes you freely made the choice of which path to take, but you were given a choice that you HAD to chose from. There had to be a reason that drew you to the desicion you made. But the fact that you had to make a choice to take the right or left road is not making a free choice. The road was laid out in front of you to make a choice….you pick a direction. Free will would of been, I do not want to go left or right so I will go straight where there is no road and see where I end up.
John: So are you saying that our lives are already determined and will be a different ending depending on the path we choice? Our chosen path is already determined?
Me: As Seneca stated “All life is bondage” (Seneca 2016) We still have to make a choice on the path we chose, so having to make a chose is not free will. It is free will of which choice we make, but the fact that we have to make a choice is not free will. The choice we do chose, there is a reason we chose it. We sit that the point in the road and contemplate, If I chose this road I think this will happen, and If I chose this road I think this will happen. When you make the choice to chose path A or Path B you made a chose of what was given to you. You did not set your own choices to chose from, they were already laid out for you.
John: So, to make it clear, you feel the path in our lives are laid out in front of us, that it is already set, but it is up to us to make the choice or illiusion that we made our own choice in which path we chose, but the path is already laid out for us, we just have to make the choice which path to chose? And since we are having to make a choice that is not free will?
Me: Yes, in my Opinion as seen in M.U.S.E. fate or freewill?, we are all responsible for our own lives and the path we chose. It is just which path will you chose. Yes you would think picking your own path would be freewill, but each path has it own journey already set, so how much free will is there when you HAVE to make a choice….either A or B….Now if I chose path C where there is no road and that was never on option, then I freely made a choice that was not givin.
