You’re working as a pharmacist at a small independent community pharmacy
Bioethics Dilemma
You’re working as a pharmacist at a small independent community pharmacy and you know practically all of your patients by name and know exactly all of their needs. One of the patients that you’re very close to was diagnosed several months ago with terminal cancer and comes by fairly often to discuss questions about her diagnosis. She knows that she’s probably not going to make it and she’s resigned herself to that fact; however, she’s told you from the outset that she doesn’t want anyone else to know until she’s ready to tell them.
One day, she and one of her caretakers who’s a close relative comes by with a prescription. You read the prescriptions and immediately know that these medications are given for people who are close to dying. You look at your patient, and she gives you a look that indicates that she still hasn’t told the caretaker yet.
The caretaker asks you, “These medications are totally different from the ones that she usually gets. Is she going to be okay?
What do you tell her?

Access to respectful intersectional care (like respecting a woman’s right to have a woman be her provider or having a woman be a personal attendant while being examined by a man)? Reproductive rights (abortion, access to contraception, choosing to be childless)? The pressures being placed on many women today—family expectations, career/school, gendered/cultural expectations, etc?
As always, this is a minimum 250 word (1 page) essay.
