Hello Everyone,

An organization that is familiar to me is the military aviation industry. In the military aviation industry, inventory and workforce waste are highly prevalent. Organizations must plan to deal with unexpected increases in demands for aviation maintenance, logistical planning, and supply chain management requirements necessary to maintain fully mission-capable military aircraft. Suppose military aircraft are not mission capable due to supply chain or manning requirements. In that case, the results of a missed mission could be catastrophic to a nation or military. The tendency to be prepared often results in various forms of waste such as overproduction of resources, unnecessary inventory, and the excess requirement of personal becoming idle in production processes (Collier & Evans, 2019).

One such example occurred in my current organization. The supply chain management process required maintenance shops to fill out requisitions forms, then got a particular office called Supply Chain Processing (SPC) to initiate the material requisition request to the central supply warehouses. The technician was then given the request validation. It was taken to the main supply warehouse to have the requisition processed by staff to gain possession of the necessary part to repair the aircraft. Several processes could be implemented to reduce the number of steps required to obtain the part required to repair the aircraft. Training could be provided for the technician to initiate the request directly to the supply warehouse, reducing the SPC’s need, increasing speed and efficiency by reducing the number of steps required for the SCM process. The decreased number of steps would reduce operating costs, and fewer employees are required. The downtime for aircraft is minimized, decreasing overall wage cost. The resulting change management process would increase efficiency, reduce operating costs and improve productivity for existing staff (Pyke & Cohen, 1990).
