4)Asimina posted ” The floats that we usually get are from PICU and pediatric ER. This helps increase the amount of nurses that we have in the NICU in order to decrease the amount of patients that each nurse has.” Having float pool of nurses is a supportive way to decrease patient-to-nurse ration. However, I would like to be the devil’s advocate. Are we truly solving the nursing shortage by creating float nurses? Are those nurses floating from other department to ours only during low census in their department? If so, we are not truly helping the nursing shortage but merely patching up the issue. What do you all think?
