Evaluating the results based on my line of profession which will be Nursing
Hi class, for this assignment I will be evaluating the results based on my line of profession which will be Nursing. When looking at the data presented we can initial last see that the mean for a nurses annual wage is $82,750 and the median is $77,600. Based this information we can see that the pay is quite consistent. Now we can take a look at the percentiles and based on the information provided we see that 10% has a hourly wage of $28.58, 25% has an hourly wage of $29.71 which isn’t much of an improvement. 50% has an hourly wage of $37.31, 75% has $46.91 and 90% is at $57.81. The most attractive hourly rate is the one in the 90th percentile which makes sense, seeing as not many jobs would be willing to pay that high or these are nurses who have been in the profession for quite some time.
Now we take a look at the map and identify which are the highest and lowest paying states. It seems that the highest paying states are California, Hawaii and Oregon. California has a annual mean wage of 124,000. The lowest paying states seem to include Puerto Rico and Indiana among many others. I live in Illinois and the range for my state is about $75,160-$81,600. I’d say this is a very average pay that isn’t too low but could always be higher of course.
Based on this data I would say that I am still comfortable with the pay within my state because I know that the cost of living is still manageable with the wages. On the other hand, although California pays better it is still known for a high cost of living so at the end it all comes down to about the same earnings if you really think about it. If I was making a move to another state I think that statistics on real estate would be another place I would be looking before making any decisions. The highest and lowest paid states pay a very key role in the median and mean of the United States because there is quite a good number of them.
If I was asked by an employer to request a salary I would look at the average earnings for the same occupation within my area limits. This way the cost of living and other factors would already be considered in the averages since they are about the same as mine.
