I agree with Koster’s interpretation because it doesn’t symbolize a wedding ceremony or an engagement. Well not one to be happy about it’s like the man is in morning by his overall appearance. There is a lot of truth with Koster stating that this portrait is of this man and his late wife.Sadness is just written all over his face followed by him dressed in all black and she wears the shade of green, as it is displaying life almost in a sense. His hand isn’t even interlocking hers nor is he making eye contact with her in this picture. Even though she’s displaying mother hood she doesn’t look to happy herself, it’s as if she already know what she is getting herself in too.

The four symbolic elements that would be displayed in a portrait of me and my significant other would be a radio showing our love for music. The second one would be laughter just us enjoying each other’s company at the beach. The beach would be the third one because it’s my favorite place in the world. Last but not least we will be embracing one another showing or love for each other.

I do not agree with Jenkin’s interpretation that this picture does not indicate a wedding ceremony. The picture portrays religious as well as secular representations of a commitment ceremony between the couple. For instance, the presence of a dog on the scene represents fidelity between the couple, the pair of clogs symbolize that the couple was standing on holy position and the way the man holds the woman’s hand shows the taki………………………
