Assignment Instructions: Nonverbal Communication
In this assignment, you will explore the dimensions of nonverbal communication. We discussed ten (10) modes of nonverbal communication.
This project requires that you explain and illustrate at least three (3) of these modes using one of the following methods:
Write a 2-3 page paper
Record a video
Create a PowerPoint presentation
The first part of your assignment is your introduction. Provide an introduction defining nonverbal communication, identifying its components, and explaining its importance to the interpersonal communication process.
Part two (2), identify at least three forms of nonverbal communication you will be exploring in your project. Define and describe the particular nonverbal behavior you are investigating. Do not assume the reader to be knowledgeable about the subject.
Next, illustrate the forms of nonverbal communication you discussed in Part two (2) with concrete examples. If you are using a video, try and act out the nonverbal communication. If you are preparing a paper or PowerPoint presentation, try and locate some images or link to some videos that illustrate the modes of nonverbal communication you have chosen.
Finally, discuss whether culture and sex/gender impact the examples you are discussing. For instance, would your examples communicate something differently in another culture or subculture? Would the same action or expression by someone of a different sex/gender change the meaning?
