Mythological epic
Create an Outline for the presentation that will be due next week. The outline should briefly indicate what will actually be discussed in the project that is due next week (simply restating the assignment instructions in outline format is not sufficient for this assignment).
- Pick a contemporary story in the form of a novel, movie, or video game that is inspired by a mythological epic or journey of a hero’s quest.
- Identify the villain and list his or her characteristics and role in the hero’s quest.
- Identify other archetypes within the story. List these roles in the hero’s quest.
- Identify the steps the hero takes in the quest: initiation, separation, transformation, and return.
- List parallels between the myth(s) that inspired your contemporary story and the contemporary story it inspired.
- List any mythological symbolism, metaphors, and attributes pertinent to the story that you will include in your presentation.
- List the conflicts between personal desires and community responsibility represented in the myth and the contemporary story. Relate these to the to the conflicts and choices ordinary humans struggle with.
Demonstrate an understanding of the course material
Failure to complete the Outline will result in a zero for the assignment.
