Analyse The Impact of Geography On Africa and Middle Eastern Migration Patterns
(Analyse The Impact of Geography On Africa and Middle Eastern Migration Patterns) Writing assignment: Project Proposal & Annotated Bibliography
Format: Double-spaced, 12-point font. Must include a word count and may be a maximum of 1500 words excluding bibliography.
Citation: Please use in-text citations and include a full bibliography. Follow guidelines for APA APA (American Psychological Association) style available at: http://www.bibme.org/citation-guide/apa/.
Topic: The project proposal will outline the topic for your final paper as well as contain an annotated bibliography of key sources for your final paper. (Analyse The Impact of Geography On Africa and Middle Eastern Migration Patterns)
Instructions:The final essay will be critical review of a topic, question, or subfield of your choosing within geography, ranging from topics we discuss in class to contemporary analysis of humanistic geographies; historical geographies; animal geographies/ more-than-human geographies; geographical methods; landscape; risk; development; sustainable development; the Anthropocene; geopolitics; political geography or cultural geographies amongst many other possible topics.
You will not have to have read all the sources yet but you will need to justify why they are included (e.g. read the abstract) and what they could contribute to the final paper.
Suggested format:
Introduction: begin by discussing the topic/ subfield/ debate that will be the focus of your paper. Why is it an interesting area of study?
Your question should be in the format: “what do geographers think about XXX?” or “how have geographers thought about the issue of YYY?”
Annotated bibliography: list key sources that will inform your paper. You may use abbreviated references (e.g. list as ‘Perrault 2018’) with full bibliography at the end (and not in the word count). For each citation, please include a brief (150 words) description of the source with an evaluation of its use for your paper: for instance, the source may provide an earlier review of a related topic; it may be an example of a particular kind of study; it may be a source that indicates that further study is needed on your proposed topic – how might it be useful for your paper? Please do not copy and paste the abstract of the paper as your annotation – I want to see your critical reflection for how you might use the paper rather than a lengthy description of its argument. The Cornell University Guide to Annotated Bibliographies (http://guides.library.cornell.edu/annotatedbibliography) describes the annotation as containing the following information: “Include one or more sentences that (a) evaluate the authority or background of the author, (b) comment on the intended audience, (c) compare or contrast this work with another you have cited, or (d) explain how this work illuminates your bibliography topic.”
The number of sources you include will be a partial indicator of the thoroughness of your research – one or two will not be enough. At least 10 academic sources will indicate a well-researched topic.
