step 1: Collecting Data

Choose a live incident, show or film, or simply record an episode off TV so that you can watch it multiple times.
Step 2: Analyzing Data: Answer the following questions on the data-collection form.

1. Who was the intended audience for this incident? Why did you choose it?

2. What kind of deviance was featured? Give specific examples of situations, scenes, dialogue, or characters, and explain why they are examples of deviance.

3. Was the deviance celebrated or condemned?

4. How did it make you feel to watch the program?

5. What effect do you think the show had on other viewers?

6. Do you think the program reinforces or challenges prevailing social norms?
