My Clifton Strengths top five results are adaptability, includer, woo, communication, and positivity (Clifton Strengths Summary, 2020).

Development Goals and Areas of Opportunity

Two of my weakness/areas of development are developing effective presentation and project management skills.

I selected the presentation skill because successful managers are expected to be superior presenters. They need to effectively deliver their message to their followers and co-workers through presentations and captivate them to pursue meeting the presented goal for the organization. Although I have experience in presenting, I do not have advanced presentation skills or experience yet. I wish to develop my ability to put together a compelling PowerPoint and gain the speaking skills to captivate listeners.

Project management is a skill that is necessary for a manager. They must have the skills to develop timelines, goals, action plans, work allocations, employee assessments on the projects, and project conclusion analysis’; this must be done across multiple projects at once. I want to enhance my ability to balance multiple projects at once, which is an area of development for me. I want to gain the knowledge and experience for the skills that managers need to fulfill project management duties.

The other two development goals are people management skills and leadership and teamwork skills. A successful manager must successfully manage their followers/employees. Parts of successfully managing employees are being a successful leader and driving effective teamwork within one’s group. Managing people takes integrity, trust, and the ability to motivate. It also takes technical and psychological skills that I wish to develop from the training course and over time through experience.

How Strengths will Assist Development Activities

Adaptability

Being able to create and change actions dynamically is an essential part of project management. An effective manager needs to adapt to meet each follower’s different needs, which will assist with leadership and people management. Having the ability to adapt when presenting is beneficial, as presenting can become dynamic and off-script.

Includer

Ensuring that everyone feels they are part of the group will allow for successful teamwork-building within the group members. Members need to feel included to feel their input is received; guaranteeing that each member has input starts from the leadership and

Woo

Managers must win their followers over by developing trusting relationships, portraying the capability to succeed, showing they have integrity, and motivating them to succeed. Having the ability to do these while including all members will help develop leadership and people management skills.

Communication

Valuable communication ability will allow me to accurately portray my thoughts and ideas and develop communication windows with followers and co-workers. This will assist me in developing presentation skills and efficiently communicating with my followers. In both situations, it will be imperative to communicate thoughts and ideas accurately.

Positivity

A positive attitude makes one more approachable by followers, which allows the leader to establish a positive connection with the followers. A positive mindset towards a follower acknowledges to the follower that the leader believes they have potential. Having this ability will assist with leadership and people management.
