Low-income neighborhoods and small communities are usually the minorities

Jonan Buan
Low-income neighborhoods and small communities are usually the minorities that suffer marginalization in health care. My program would be implementing community health workers in a specific community. This way there would be a person teaching and advocating for the minorities in their community. One of the biggest problems that minorities face is poor patient communication (AHRQ, n.d.). This poor communication is also tied to the level of education that the community have in terms of health care. Having community health workers can increase the quality of the health services delivered. The minorities suffer from lack of understanding of the health care system. My service would help them find help in navigating the health insurance system. They are also there to help patients find resources for what they need such as food, medicine and supplies. A program utilizing community health workers will be a solution to the disparity in health the minorities receive. It does not only increase access to care, but it will increase prevention of illnesses among the community. Minorities would live longer, learn better, and be healthier through this program.
