Lesson planning is not just about planning for what you want your students to know
Assessment Description
Lesson planning is not just about planning for what you want your students to know, but also planning for possible situations that might arise and solutions that can be used. Using academic and behavioral data, a teacher must plan for what each child is going to need to help them access the curriculum as well as any individual accommodations that will be needed. The time spent on planning helps to ensure successful delivery of the lesson.
Use the “COE Lesson Plan Template” to complete the assignment.
Select a grade level 3-5 and a corresponding Arizona or other state math standard within the Number and Operations-Fractions domain that you will use to design an original lesson plan.
Compose an aligning learning objective, and design appropriate activities for a selected group of 3-4 students, of varying academic levels, from the “Class Profile” in your lesson.
In the Rationale/Reflection section of the lesson plan, describe three potential issues and/or roadblocks that might occur while delivering the lesson, based on the needs of the selected group of students. Provide possible solutions for each potential issue.
Cite any resource used to create the lesson plan.
Illinois Math Standard within the Number and Operations domain for 4th grade
CC.4.NF.1 Extend understanding of fraction equivalence and ordering. Explain why a fraction a/b is equivalent to afraction (n × a)/(n × b) by using visual fraction models, with attention to how the number and size of the parts differ eventhough the two fractions themselves are the same size. Use this principle to recognize and generate equivalentfractions. (Grade 4 expectations in this domain are limited to fractions with denominators 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 12, and100.)
