Furthermore, for each of these relations, think about the four dimensions of legal consciousness: normativity, constraint, capacity, and time/space. Where is the force of law in your sectors/industry/institution? Where does it come from, how does it operate, when is it present and when is it absent, and why? Why do these questions matter – what are the stakes? And how might you begin to empirically study these questions?
Once you begin outlining and then writing your essay, you may find that some dimensions of legal consciousness are more interesting, important, etc, in addressing the questions raised than are others. You can pick and choose, and likely should. You SHOULD address all three schemas of legality (before, with, against the law), but it is almost certainly too much to attempt to cover all four dimensions of legal consciousness evident in each of these in this essay. After all, 4*3=12: If you attempted to write just a paragraph on each dimension for each relation, your essay would be very dense, boring, and would leave too much interesting stuff on the cutting room floor.
