Define why Tom Ripley murders Dickie Greenleaf.
Define why Tom Ripley murders Dickie Greenleaf. Take a stand on a specific root cause and explain how Ripley became a killer. Was the cause sexual? Social? Ambitious? Greedy? Love?
I do not believe there was a real reason for his killing beyond a co-dependency relationship gone wrong. Ripley was way more “involved” in the friendship than Greenleaf was. Greenleaf became increasingly sketched out by this and began distancing himself. This caused Ripley to become more and more emotional. I suppose if I had to choose a reason listed, I would say it was an ambitious motive. Ripley wanted to be like Greenleaf, and became almost obsessive about it. To me, it wasn’t premeditated and I don’t think Ripley meant to actually kill him, but it was more of a crime of passion type of situation. This is just my take!

It started with the one thousand dollars, It was all about money from the beginning , the fear of losing that money source what pushed Ripley to commit all those murders. I believe the main reason that Ripley became greedy, If he murder for sexual or love , then I’m sure he will leave Italy because every lover will hate to stay in a place that might have memories for that love. in regards ambitious, the murder will be obstacle for that ambitious and most likely he will leave Italy. Social reason, it might be true, but that might be affected if the financial sources has stopped. I think Ripley liked Dickie life style and he was willing to do anything to keep himself in that life style and to keep the persistence of that lifestyle , therefore,I will stick with greedy because even the last murder he’s done with Peter Kingsley was an evidencethat he was protectinghis gains after he got away with his murders and get that pension from Dickies’ father.
