Look at the Supreme Court’s docket from its current session and find a case the Court will be deciding (the docket will provide minimal information (mostly procedural matters) and then research this case. The Court’s most recent docket can be found at https://www.scotusblog.com/case-files/terms/ot2019/. Then answer the following questions in essay format: who are the parties, what issue is being decided (i.e. what was the legal question, including any background on the case), what are the parties arguments for the court deciding in their favor (including legal reasoning), and what is your opinion about what the outcome of this case should be, including why you believe the Court should decide one way or the other. Don’t forget to cite any research you’ve conducted. The following applies to all essay assignments: Each short essay must be at least one page long (12 point font, Times New Roman, double spaced) not counting headings or citations. In other words, the text of your paper must be one page in length. Essays will be graded according to the quality of the response (is it on topic, well researched, well written). Students will be marked down for typographical/spelling/grammatical errors. Students should cite their research in APA format. Students may not collaborate on essay assignments- each assignment is to be completed by the student, this includes sharing research information.
