In reviewing this week’s lecture assignment which highlighted various theories of family assessment

In reviewing this week’s lecture assignment which highlighted various theories of family assessment, I found Gordon’s Functional Health Patterns to be the most appealing. I think when we are assessing and teaching, a holistic assessments gives a much clearer idea of how a family truly functions. I also find it appealing because it provides several various areas of assessment where health care issues can be identified. By taking into account all areas of their patterns, we may also be able to identify one area of change that can improve other areas of their health. For example, identifying a problem with stress management impacts many other areas such as sleep, sexuality and nutrition. By teaching them alternative coping mechanisms for stress, a decrease in their stress can have an impact on those other areas as well.
