HS460M5-5: Apply project management techniques to ensure efficient planning of workflow.
Part I: Effective Teams
Instructions:
Based on the knowledge you have achieved about improving team effectiveness, team make-up, and team processes, compose a paper detailing what you have learned and describe how you will use this knowledge with any future classes, your present/future career, and your personal life.
A. Answer the following questions:
1. What are the specific behavioral problems of multidisciplinary groups?
2. What is the role of the facilitator? The sponsor? The project manager?
3. Identify and explain the forms of communication used during a project.
4. How can continuous quality improvement set up an adversarial relationship between the administration and the clinical staff? What are some ways to overcome this?
5. An important source of team empowerment is a shared sense of ownership of the sponsor’s product: for example, a new chemotherapy drug that produces fewer side effects for the patient.
– What is meant by a shared sense of ownership, and how is it a source of empowerment for a team member?
– Create your own example to describe how a shared sense of ownership can be encouraged.
6. How you will use the above information and knowledge gained with any future classes, your present/future career, and your personal life?
B. Case Study Scenario:
1. Review the following case scenario and answer the following question:
If you were the team leader of the group described in the case study, how would you refocus and re-motivate the team toward achieving the project’s improvement goals?
When members were recruited for the improvement project, they were told that the team’s work would be in addition to their regular work responsibilities but that they had to treat team activities as a high priority.
Team members were expected to complete team assignments on time and were required to attend meetings. Despite being aware of these clear expectations, by the third week of the project, team members started arriving late to meetings, making excuses for not completing their assigned tasks, and neglecting to return the project leader’s phone calls.
Part 2: Project Work Variance Analysis:
Review the project plan pertaining to an upcoming office move. For each task in the plan, the table shows the baseline and current or actual values for the start date, finish date, work, and cost. Dates shaded in gray and designated with an “A” mean that the date is an actual date instead of an estimated or scheduled date.
***See Attached Chart**
Assume that the current date is February 1, XXXX. Review the above information and answer the following questions:
a. Which tasks are causing a variation in the work schedule?
b. Which tasks are causing variation in the project schedule (start and finish dates)?
c. Which tasks are causing variation in the budgeted costs for the project?
d. Do any of the above variances impact the other tasks in the project? What is the impact?
e. Which tasks require some type of action to get the project back on track? What type of action would you take?
