imagism” mostly associated with two famous poets one English the other one American boy you may have heard of these two people the first one is T.E. Holmes and the other one is Ezra Pound
should be based on luminous details something that switches on the light immediately in the mind of the reader
so this idea of luminous details he said it is based on “precision” and “economy”
the poems are extremely short so the poet has to really strike you with this one or two images that will have very profound impact on the reader
the name of movement imagism comes from image and this concern with making poetry look like visual medium something that gives you the same” instantaneous” feeling or the same instantaneous experience
Poetry should be based on what is called living speech “ simple language”
Basic principles of imagism:
- Direct treatment of the “thing”.
- To use “absolutely” no word that does not contribute to the presentation.
- As to rhythm, to compose a sentence in sequence of the musical phrase and not in the sequence of the metronome.
