County and County and Municipal agencies such as Sheriff’s Offices and Police Departments, State police and federal agencies investigate trafficking and smuggling cases.

Over the past couple of decades the incidences of human trafficking has increased due to the ease of travel and the accessibility to vulnerable individuals which has been aided by technology. Generally, the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) investigates cases of human trafficking, especially if it is on a larger scale. North Carolina does have the Charlotte Mecklenburg Human Trafficking Task Force which a coalition of several law enforcement agencies who assist in the apprehension and prosecution of human trafficking rings.
