In Arkansas: A Narrative History, ” The single event most profoundly affecting sixteenth-century Native Americans in Arkansas and the mid-south was the 1539-1543 exploration of the regions by the Spanish conquistador Hernando de Soto.” As you read chapter three, four and five (and possibly refering back to chapter 2) contemplate the following questions:

a) Why did the Spanish have such an affect?

b) Who established the Arkansas Post and why?

c) If this was the start of colonization how did colonization evolve and what was good or bad about it?
