The debates whether or not to legalize marijuana keep ensuing in the United States of America. In the history of marijuana legislation, various institutions enforced laws with aspects of inequality, such as racism and age.

Discussion

Shaping of the history of marijuana legislation in the U.S was mostly driven by racism and age. The children and youth were meant to believe that marijuana acts as a gateway drug, and can lead to one engaging in other harder drugs, such as heroin and cocaine. In school, children were told that marijuana can lead to memory loss and poor cognitive functioning. Hence, children grew up knowing that weed is dangerous and should be illegal.
