Hillsboro Health System’s (HHS) board of directors are at a crossroads, pondering the current situation at HHS, one of the largest U.S. nursing home providers. The board is discouraged by the company’s downward spiral of its stock price and financial performance. The board is also disappointed with the continuing explanations of the CEO about the company’s situation.
Their concern is accentuated by the uncertainty of the healthcare industry, and also by the increased market penetration by HHS’ competitors. The healthcare industry was indeed subject to many environmental factors, not the least of which was the reliance on government reimbursement for services. One of the major issues facing the industry was significant reductions in federal funding for health and elder care.
The lack of a succession plan at HHS coupled with no formal internal effort to develop leadership for the future cast an ominous shadow over the future of the company. The board knew it did not have any time to waste.
As a recruiter for an Executive HR company, you are hired to explore issues pertaining to HHS’ leadership options. The goal is to develop a leadership and succession plan for the scenario listed above.
