As an example consider the situation in Syria. Syria had an excellent health system prior to the ongoing civil war but most health workers have either been killed, displaced, or migrated. Health facilities have been the target of directed bombing attacks. In spite of unimaginable conditions for much of the population and for many health workers, medical services continue to be provided by courageous individuals and groups.
