Compare the various laws that affect health care organizations
Compare the various laws that affect health care organizations (e.g., HIPAA, EMTALA, ADA).
As the manager of a community hospital’s Emergency Department, you have been tasked with developing a policy to prevent patients from receiving ED services for non-emergent conditions. For this assignment, you will prepare a policy draft to be reviewed by the hospital’s leadership team. This team includes legal counsel, physicians and registered nurses, as well as chief operating, financial, and executive officers. Your wording should be professional, and consistent with an organization’s policy (do not include statements that indicate opinion, personal views, or observations).
In an opening paragraph, summarize the issue of overcrowding in emergency departments (patients seeking care for both emergent and non-emergent conditions).
In a second paragraph, summarize EMTALA and the hospital’s obligation to comply with it.
Write a policy to include the following:
Guidelines for administrative staff who will be registering and triaging patients. (Approximately one paragraph in length, bulleted list format is acceptable).
Guidelines for clinical staff (physicians, nurses, paramedics, etc.) who will be triaging and treating patients. (Approximately one paragraph in length, bulleted list format is acceptable).
Include a reference page, in APA format, with a minimum of three scholarly sources.
