Is single payer the answer? I don’t think we have clearly answered this question. The following video will give perspectives from lawmakers on the issue of single payer. While this video takes us back to the election that is surely over at this point, the information about Medicare for All continues to be something for consideration this week as we think about whether or not a single payer system would benefit U.S. citizens. Please view the video, a newscast where professionals involved in the Affordable Care Act and Government administration discuss Medicare for All.
Hurdles and challenges are explained. Two important factors in today’s health care environment that are deemed problematic are coverage (many people are left out, i.e. have no insurance) and cost. The concept of transitioning from a private system to “Medicare for Some” is proposed as a way to insure more people, allow individuals happy with private plans to keep their plans, and potentially bring some level of comfort so that transition to single payer might be more attractive to opponents.
